Play Food – The Varied Types

Whether or not you have a play kitchen, play food is a fun time of child’s play. Food play is imaginative play. Not to mention having make believe meals with your child is loads of fun.
There are countless variations. If your child chooses not to have a play meal with you, then they may also “eat” with their friends, or maybe they end up gathering all of her stuffed animal friends instead. This scene may play out around a table, or they lay out a table cloth on the floor for a picnic.

Imaginary food is fine for this play. However, a little supplementary realism facilitates the make believe along. With play food, the kids can physically place the food on dishes and arrange them into meals. Or, the food can go into bowls for serving. The bowls are then passed around the table when it is time to eatat meal time.

Play food is typically made from either plastic or wood. Plastic food may be smaller or realistically sized. Fully sized fruit is realistic enough for the real product. Wooden food is made more imaginatively. Many of the wooden fruit are made for slicing. The individual pieces are assembled into a whole. The pieces are attached together using hook and loop fasteners. To break up the food into pieces, it is cut with a play knife.

There is an additional benefit to sliced wooden food. The parts can be served separately. That way, everyone can get a piece of fruit or a piece of bread – just like at a actual meal.

Another form of toy food is packaging. These are typically referred to as “refrigerator food”. This is food is fun to put into cabinets. Children “open” boxed or canned food and dump it into a pan for cooking or into a bowl for mixing.

The ultimate interaction with your child is food play. Pretend meals and cooking can be considered as the best quality time you can experience with your child.
